WALE

Cannery Ballroom // January 17

In a spectacular takeover of Nashville's iconic Cannery Ballroom, D.C. native Wale delivered a performance that exceeded all expectations. The 1,000-capacity, standing room only venue, sold out days prior to the show, and became the epicenter of a long-awaited musical celebration on Wale's Wow…That’s Crazy tour. Wale brought the heat, and his fans showed up and showed out for the long-awaited night full of both the classics hits and new material.

Arriving just 15 minutes after doors opened, I was shocked to see the place packed already. The line to enter the venue was wrapped around the building, full of eager fans ready to be let in. The line was brimming with enthusiastic fans adorned in the latest fashion trends, exuded excitement and anticipation that was palpable. You could truly say the fans were the first ones to set the tone for the night ahead. Fans had mentally prepared themselves for a night full of the best beats. fantastic flows, and the kind of hype that shakes buildings.

Beginning his set with an array of his classic hits such as "PYT," Wale showed his ability to culminate timeless tracks, in both his own hits and his features as well. The pulsating beats of "No Hands" brought the crowd back to their pasts, a transportive moment reminiscent of our high school freshman year when the song first graced our iPods.

As the night drew to a close, Wale expressed gratitude to both old and new fans, emphasizing the significance of celebrating one's blackness. I stayed behind for a moment, listening to the crowds talking about just how much of a great time they had. I joined in, too.

A favorite lyric of mine from the night?

They keep saying "whale" but my name "Wale."
